The All Progressives Congress South-East Women have inaugurated a National Coordinating Committee ahead of a regional mega rally and empowerment programme scheduled for August 18 in Enugu State.
The inauguration, held during a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, marked the commencement of mobilisation across the five South-East states for the event, themed, ‘One Region, One Vision, Victory for Tinubu 2027.’
According to a statement signed by the Chairman, Media, Protocol and Publicity Committee, Mary Ikoku, the programme will hold at Okpara Square, Enugu.
The statement said the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to attend the event alongside the Minister of Women Affairs, the APC National Women Leader, Mary Alile Idele, South-East governors and their wives, members of the National Assembly, ministers, party leaders, traditional rulers and women groups from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
It added that the event would also serve as a reception for the First Lady in recognition of her support for women’s economic empowerment through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Speaking at the briefing, the APC South-East Zonal Women Leader and convener of the programme, Oby Ajih, said the rally was designed to strengthen women’s participation in politics and economic development.
She said the programme would also serve as a platform for mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his re-election bid in 2027.
Ajih said the event would feature grants and start-up support for traders, farmers and small businesses, skills acquisition, healthcare outreach and leadership development programmes for women.
Former Senator representing Anambra Central, Uche Ekwunife, commended the Federal Government’s women empowerment initiatives and urged women in the South-East to participate in the programme.
Also speaking, the National Organising Secretary of the Tinubu Torch Bearers, Gloria Akobundu, described the rally as an opportunity to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and women’s participation in national development.
Responding to questions from journalists, the Chairman of the Media, Protocol and Publicity Committee, Mary Ikoku, said preparations for the event had reached an advanced stage.
She expressed confidence that the programme would attract women from across the South-East and further promote empowerment and grassroots mobilisation in the region.
