Aruna inspires Amiens to winning start in France

Nigerian table tennis star Quadri Aruna marked his French Pro B League debut with a victory on Tuesday leading Amiens to a 3-2 win over Lille.

Aruna secured a hard-fought win in his opening tie before defeating Iran’s Hossein Hodaei 3-1 to anchor the victory for Amiens. The result places Amiens third in the overall standings as the club pursues promotion to the top division.

African players delivered strong performances across the opening fixtures. Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa led Courbevoie STT to a 3-2 victory over Compiégnois TT 1, while Benin Republic’s Salifou Abdel-Kader was left out of the Compiégnois lineup. In Nantes, Nigerian veteran player-coach Segun Toriola guided his side to a 3-1 win over Frejus AMSL alongside Egyptian teammate Youssef Abdelaziz and Greece’s Panagiotis Gionis.

Caen TTC moved to the top of the league table following a 3-0 sweep of Miramas AS, powered by Algeria’s Stephane Ouaiche. Elsewhere, Le Havre ATT recorded a 3-1 win against Boulogne Billancourt AC without Nigerian pair Olajide Omotayo and Taiwo Mati featuring in the squad. In Proville, Algeria’s Maheidine Bella claimed his team’s lone point in a 1-3 loss to Pontoise-Cergy AS.

Amiens will return to action on Tuesday, September 29, when they travel to face Toriola’s Nantes.
