Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, branch, has declared indefinite strike over the state government’s failure to implement the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement at the university.
It declared the strike after its congress session on Monday.
A statement signed after the congress by the branch Chairman, Dr. Cyril Onogbosele and Secretary, Dr. William Odion, said there was no response from the university management or Edo State Government after it issued a 14-day ultimatum.
According to the statement, ‘congress decried the failure by the university authority and Edo State Government to meet the demands of the union on the agreement, namely implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement, and payment of the arrears of allowances in the agreement from January 2026 to date.
‘Having failed to implement the agreement within the 14-day ultimatum in addition to unsuccessful efforts by the branch to make the university authority and Edo State Government to implement the agreement, congress directed members to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike with effect from August 25, 2026 at 12:01 am.
‘For the avoidance of doubt, the strike covers withdrawal of statutory services by members, including teaching/lecturing, conduct and invigilation of all forms of examination (undergraduate, postgraduate, oral, CBE and paper-based examinations); statutory meetings, including Departmental, Faculty, Senate and Committee meetings; and students’ research project and Industrial Training (IT)/Teaching Practice supervision.’
