Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Osun State University (UNIOSUN) chapter, has faulted the decision of Governor Ademola Adeleke to extend the tenure of the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adegbooye, by two years.
The union said Osun State University Establishment Law did not provide for the extension of the tenure of a Vice Chancellor, noting that such privilege was provided for only the Registrar, Bursar and Librarian.
ASUU Chairman at UNIOSUN, Dr. Wande Olaosebikan, said this in an interview with The Nation, following reports that Adeleke had offered Adegbooye a two-year extension after the expiration of his five-year tenure.
Olaosebikan, however, said the union would not immediately take action based on media reports, noting that ASUU was awaiting confirmation of whether the Vice Chancellor had accepted the offer.
He said the matter was discussed at the union’s congress on Tuesday where members examined relevant laws guiding the administration of the university.
