Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the death of Dotun Oladipo, publisher of EagleOnline and a prominent member of Nigeria’s online journalism community.
Atiku, in a statement posted on X, described Oladipo as an ‘extraordinary journalist’ and an ‘extraordinary human being’, saying his death was deeply painful.
He described the deceased as a gentleman who was gracious, thoughtful, decent and humble.
According to Atiku, Oladipo was deeply committed to journalism and upheld the values of truth, professionalism and public service throughout his career.
He said beyond Oladipo’s professional accomplishments, he was known for his warmth, generosity, respect for others and willingness to engage people with kindness.
‘Nigeria’s journalism community, particularly the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), has lost a distinguished professional,’ Atiku said.
He added that Oladipo’s friends and colleagues had lost a dependable and gracious companion, while many others whose lives he touched had lost ‘a truly good man’.
Atiku prayed for the repose of Oladipo’s soul and asked God to grant his family, colleagues and friends the strength to bear the loss.
‘May his memory remain a blessing,’ he said.
