Residents and commuters along the Karu corridor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have commended President Bola Tinubu and Minister Nyesom Wike for completing a 15-kilometre road project that has eased traffic congestion, reduced flooding and boosted local businesses.
The project, awarded to indigenous contractor Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited on August 22, 2025, runs from the Karu Interchange on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, covering DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Primus Hospital Road and Old CBN Quarters Road. The corridor had for years suffered severe congestion and flooding, particularly in the rainy season.
Shop owner, Chinyere Obasi, said the improved road, complete with street lighting, had boosted business. Teacher Anita Ogunwunmi said her commuting time had shortened considerably, while motorist Johnpaul Adamu described the transformation as remarkable, praising the new streetlights and describing Wike as the best FCT minister he had seen.
Project Manager, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, Haci Cengiz, said the project demonstrated the capacity of indigenous contractors to deliver major infrastructure, noting that the firm completed the 18-month Ushafa road project in seven months before delivering the Karu job. He said about 259 workers, mostly from the host community, were engaged on the project, and urged continued support for indigenous contractors to retain technical expertise and investment in Nigeria.
