Lions Clubs gift bags, writing materials to schools

Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club in collaboration with Lagos Hilton and Lagos British Lions Clubs last week held its ‘Back to School’ programme for two nursery/primary schools in Lagos.

The gesture, which took place first at Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, and Agidingbi Primary School, both in Ikeja, had them distributing brand new school bags, exercise books, rulers, biros, pencils and erasers to the pupils.

President, Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club, Lion Temitayo Osunremi, said the gesture was in line with the club’s custom of welcoming pupils back to school every new school calendar.

‘Don’t forget, Literacy is one of our focal areas, so this also coincides with our celebration of the World Literacy Day, which all Lions Clubs commemorate,’ he added.

President, Lagos Hilton Lions Club, Lion Adeniyi Agunloye, who said the gesture cost the clubs well over N1 million, said the programme was important because it helped them support needy pupils, adding that the club would next be supporting Lagos State Model Primary School in its annual inter-house sports come December 2027.

Service Chairperson, Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club, Ayokun Abiodun Sowunmi, said the project was the club’s third back to school project in the year, and that they especially chose Agidingbi Primary School because it was their adopted school.

‘We’ve undertaken several projects with them including equipping the sick bay and painting their classrooms. In return, they also adopted us as Purple House in their annual inter-house sports, which we actively partake in.’

A representative of Lagos British Lions Club, Lion Towolawi Abiodun Oluwatobiloba, said the clubs saw a need and decided to step in and put a smile on the pupils’ faces.

An appreciative Head Teacher of Agidingbi Primary School, Fatimo Olasunbo Oseni, said the gesture was timely. ‘Since we resumed Monday, 80% of the pupils were without books, bags and other learning materials; so what they have done is great and will go a long way in enhancing learning.’

Head girl, Angel David, gave the vote of thanks at Lagos State Model Primary School, Ikeja.
