A socio-political movement in Osun East Senatorial District dismissed a youth group’s threats on Thursday to initiate a recall process for Senator Francis Fadahunsi.
The Nation recalls that youth groups protested on Wednesday against Fadahunsi, calling for his arrest and threatening to recall the legislator over an alleged inflammatory comment made before the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.
However, the Fadahunsi Grassroots Movement rejected the threat, claiming the youth groups behind the call are politically sponsored to distract the legislator.
Speaking at a news conference in Ilesa, the Movement’s Director-General, Samuel Awowole, said the lawmaker has done well, citing his track record of community development.
He said, ‘Fadahunsi has secured employment opportunities for over 400 constituents, procurement of tools for artisans, scholarships for the people, among others.’
Reacting to the protesters’ call, Awowole stated, ‘We witnessed a protest against Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi. While we recognise the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly and the legitimate expectation that elected representatives should remain accountable to their constituents, we are concerned about the circumstances surrounding the protest, the messages being conveyed, and the identities of some of those mobilised to participate.’
He added that ‘Some of the individuals involved are people who have, at various times, shared political interests with Senator Fadahunsi and may have benefited directly or indirectly from his representation and goodwill.’
The movement subsequently condemned post-election attacks, calling for restraint, saying, ‘The Osun State Governorship Election has come and gone. Whatever differences may exist among political parties and individuals, the peace and security of our people must now take precedence over political interests.’
In his comment, the President of New Nigerian Mandate, Comrade Oluwole Oyetunde, said, ‘We strongly condemn every action capable of threatening the peace, security, and stability of our communities. We are talking about the entire Ife/Ijesa land-a land whose people have coexisted for generations and whose future must not be sacrificed on the altar of political disagreements,’ he warned.
He advocated issue-based engagement in the district, not sponsored narratives, character assassination, or attempts to create unnecessary division among the people of Osun East.
They admonished Governor Adeleke, Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land, Oba Clement Haastrup, and other traditional rulers, religious and political leaders, among others, to continue cautioning individuals, groups, and political organisations whose activities may threaten peace and public order ahead of the 2027 General Election.
