Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £52 million with Manchester City for midfielder Nico Gonzalez. The move is set to strengthen Newcastle’s midfield options ahead of the new Premier League season.
The agreement is reportedly worth an initial £48 million, with a further £4 million in add-ons. Gonzalez is expected to undergo a medical as Newcastle work towards finalising the transfer.
The 24-year-old Spain international joined Manchester City from Porto in January 2025. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since arriving at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle have been keen to strengthen their midfield and view Gonzalez as a player capable of adding quality, depth and physicality to the squad. His versatility is also expected to give the club more options in midfield.
The deal will be subject to the completion of Gonzalez’s medical and final formalities. If completed, the transfer could become one of Newcastle’s biggest deals of the summer, with the overall package potentially reaching £52 million.
