Nigerian-American Ugo Ugochukwu wins Formula 3 title

Nigerian-American racing driver Ugo Ugochukwu was crowned champion of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship after placing second in the season’s final race in Madrid, Spain.

The 19-year-old Campos Racing driver secured the title at the Madring circuit on Sunday, September 13, 2026, becoming the first Nigerian-American driver to win the FIA Formula 3 championship.

Ugochukwu entered the final race tied on points with British driver Freddie Slater after a dramatic championship battle throughout the season.

Finland’s Tuukka Taponen won the Madrid Feature Race, but Ugochukwu’s second-place finish earned him enough points to clear Slater by 14 points in the final standings.

The victory strengthens his position as he aims to progress toward Formula 1.
