Rivers Hoopers forward Peter Olisemeka has expressed delight after helping the club reclaim the Nigeria Premier Basketball League title and qualify for the 2027 Basketball Africa League.
Hoopers completed an unbeaten Final Four campaign in Port Harcourt to secure their seventh domestic title, a year after losing the championship decider 74-72 to Maktown Flyers.
Olisemeka played a key role in the 88-76 victory over Gboko City Chiefs, recording 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Hoopers later defeated Maktown Flyers 92-90 in overtime to complete their perfect run.
‘I’m excited that we won the championship and qualified for the BAL,’ Olisemeka said. ‘It has been a challenging season for me personally, but I’m happy that at the end of the day we achieved our goal.’
The forward is now looking forward to the BAL and wants the Nigerian champions to begin preparations early.
Hoopers return to the continental competition after missing the last edition. They finished third in 2024, their best BAL performance.
