The Nigeria Police have warned pupils against their involvement in online fraud and other crimes that could destroy their education, careers and future.
The warning was given yesterday, when the Imo State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), sensitised pupils of Umudagwu City College, Orji, Owerri, on personal safety, cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and other social vices.
A representative of the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, alongside the POCACOV Coordinator in the state, Assistant Superintendent of Police Chukwuebuka Gospel Ishiguro, cautioned the pupils against cultism, substance abuse and cybercrime.
The police urged the students to reject peer pressure and criminal associations, stressing that the pursuit of quick money through cybercrime could expose young people to arrest, prosecution and other consequences.
PCRC Coordinators, Mr and Mrs Chima Chukwuyere, urged the students to remain disciplined and make choices that could support their academic and personal development.
The team later proceeded to Government Secondary School, Owerri, where the sensitisation was held, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Aladinma-Owerri under its September Basic Education and Literacy Project.
On the theme, ‘Your Body, Your Rights: Standing Against Exploitation and Abuse,’ Mr Ugochukwu Agunwa of the Rotary Club urged the pupils to take personal safety seriously and speak out against abuse, exploitation and suspicious activities.
Agunwa advised the pupils to report cases of abuse, exploitation and criminal conduct to trusted adults or appropriate authorities, stressing the importance of education, positive values and responsible decision-making.
