Miliki 101.3 FM, a Lagos-based grassroots radio station, has rewarded three of its loyal callers with cash prizes as it celebrated its fourth anniversary.
Mrs Oluwafunmilola Anike Salami emerged the overall best caller, while Oluwafunmilayo Oba and Oluwafunmilayo Onafuwa Julius placed second and third respectively. The winners were honoured at an anniversary reception and award ceremony held on Tuesday at the station’s office in Ojodu Abiodun, Lagos.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the station, Chief Henry Ajomale, attributed Miliki FM’s growth over the past four years to the loyalty and support of its listeners and callers in Nigeria and across the globe.
Ajomale, who attended the event with his wife, Adetoun, and son, Hon. Ladi Ajomale, also praised the station’s staff for their dedication, saying their commitment had helped sustain Miliki’s ‘King of the Airwaves’ status, popularly known as Oba Ori Afefe.
He said the station would continue to strengthen its relationship with its audience while promoting its grassroots broadcasting mission.
President of the Miliki Radio Fans Club, Mr Sanni Adegbenga Taofik, commended Ajomale for instituting the annual award, describing it as a tradition that had strengthened the bond between the station and its listeners.
Taofik said Miliki FM had, in four years, grown beyond being a radio station to becoming a platform for entertainment, information, community engagement and the promotion of Yoruba culture.
‘Four years ago, Miliki Radio came on air with a promise to entertain, inform and connect with the people, especially at the grassroots, and to preserve Yoruba heritage by promoting its culture. Today, that promise has become a movement,’ he said.
He added: ‘Miliki Radio is not just a station on the dial. It is a family.’
According to him, the station’s programmes, music, news and community-oriented initiatives have made it a major voice in Lagos and Ogun states, while its online platform has extended its reach to listeners around the world.
Among dignitaries at the celebration were the Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Otunba Jide Oni; Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju; and Hon. Monsuru Oloyede.
The anniversary celebration also featured an appreciation of listeners whose active participation, the station said, had remained central to its four-year journey.
