Former players of Bayelsa United Football Club have donated a set of jersey to the club ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League, (NNL) season.
Former Club Chairman, Dr. Ebiki Timitimi, who presented the jerseys in Yenagoa, said the gesture was to support the team’s preparations for pre-season friendlies and the new campaign.
Timitimi said ex-players remain committed to the growth of the club and urged critics to be constructive in their assessments of the management.
‘As ex-players, we deemed it fit to support the team in our own little way with a set of jerseys because pre-season friendlies will soon commence,’ Timitimi said. ‘Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but criticism should be constructive. Engage the management to hear their side of the story before rushing to the public without proper knowledge of the issues,’ he added.
Chairman, Dr. Peter Singabele and the Management Board, and a board member Godson Ekadi, while receiving the kits, described the donation as a show of solidarity from a critical stakeholder group.
Ekadi said the gesture, the first major support from stakeholders ahead of the new season, will boost the morale of the board, technical crew and players.
‘It is a wonderful statement from the ex-players. When you get support from your immediate constituency, it signals a wonderful season ahead,’ Ekadi said.’This is the first gift we are receiving from stakeholders this season. Our season has already started with this demonstration of love, not just in words but in action. We call on others to toe the line of the ex-players.’
He called on corporate organisations and International Oil Companies (IOCs), operating in Bayelsa State to emulate the former players.
‘We are calling on all corporate bodies and IOCs to emulate the ex-players. This shows love and unity within the Bayelsa United family, making it easier for brands to identify with the club,’ he stated.
