Sporting Lagos compounds Enyimba woes in five-goal thriller

Sporting Lagos came from behind twice to beat Enyimba 3-2 in Aba on Matchday Five of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), deepening the crisis at the nine-time champions.

Stanley Dimgba put Enyimba ahead in the 44th minute, but Abdullahi levelled six minutes after the restart. Tobi Iyanda restored the home side’s lead from the penalty spot in the 54th minute.

Sporting Lagos hit back through Haruna Hadi in the 65th minute. Daniel Aboh then completed the turnaround four minutes later.

The defeat is Enyimba’s second successive home loss in the league, following a 1-0 reverse to Inter Lagos in their previous fixture. Sporting Lagos were the only visiting side to take maximum points on the day.

Elsewhere on Matchday Five, Barau FC beat Abia Warriors 2-0 through Joseph Atule in the 22nd minute and substitute Ibrahim Ayoola in the 61st. That extended their unbeaten start to five games and put them top of the table. Rangers edged Ranchers Bees 1-0 thanks to Chidozie Iwundu’s 80th -minute strike.

Bendel Insurance beat Ikorodu City 2-1, Shooting Stars saw off Katsina United 2-0 and Kwara United got past Nasarawa United 2-1. Doma United drew 2-2 with Plateau United, with Michael Adegbite scoring twice for the hosts. Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars drew 1-1, while Niger Tornadoes and Warri Wolves played out a goalless draw.
