Tanzanians have taken to social media to express concern over the recent appearance of singer Juma Jux, with some users launching a campaign tagged #FreeJuma amid speculation about his wellbeing and his marriage to Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.
The conversation was triggered by a video of the Tanzanian musician that surfaced online following his appearance at the wedding of Nigerian content creators Peller and Jarvis.
In the footage, some Tanzanian fans appeared alarmed by how much slimmer Jux looked compared with his previous public appearances, prompting questions about his wellbeing and the state of his marriage.
Some users went as far as suggesting that the singer was not at peace, although there has been no public confirmation from Jux or his wife that he is experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
One social media user wrote: ‘Even if you look at him, you will know that he has no peace or comfort. Just say he is just pretending.’
Another appealed to Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan to intervene, writing: ‘Honourable President of Tanzania, Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan, like your name, we are praying for a solution for a Tanzanian youth who lives at his mother-in-law’s house in Nigeria. Mama, say something young man, there is a way he is going through challenges.’
The reaction also extended to Jux’s Nigerian wife, with another commenter expressing concern over his physical appearance while addressing Priscilla.
‘Priscy, we loved you so much and received you with love especially now. Why is our brother losing his body, my wife?’ the user wrote.
The comments have fuelled the ‘Free Juma’ conversation, with some Tanzanians interpreting the singer’s slimmer appearance as a possible sign that he is unhappy or going through difficulties.
However, the online speculation remains unsubstantiated. Neither Jux nor Priscilla has publicly stated that their marriage is in trouble, and a change in physical appearance alone cannot establish what may be happening in someone’s private life.
