Tinubu hails Enikanolaiye on birthday, praises diplomatic service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday described the experience of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in international relations as valuable to Nigeria’s global standing.

Tinubu, in a congratulatory message to Enikanolaiye, who turns 67 today, noted referred to him as a ”distinguished diplomat and dedicated public servant” whose decades of service have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s foreign policy and international engagements.

The president stated in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the minister’s career reflects professionalism, patriotism and commitment to Nigeria.

He particularly acknowledged Enikanolaiye’s contributions to the formulation and implementation of Nigeria’s foreign policy, as well as the country’s engagements with the United Nations, African Union, Commonwealth and other international organisations.

He said the diplomat’s extensive experience in international relations, administration and strategic affairs remained an asset to Nigeria as the country seeks to strengthen its standing and influence in the international community.

Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1982 and served until August 2017, rising through the diplomatic ranks to become Permanent Secretary.

He subsequently served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations before he was appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Tinubu commended his contributions to Nigeria’s diplomatic service through various assignments at the ministry’s headquarters and Nigerian missions abroad.

The President described Enikanolaiye’s appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs as a fitting recognition of his exemplary record of public service and extensive diplomatic experience.

He expressed confidence that the minister would continue to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic institutions and advance the country’s interests on the global stage.

A part of the statement by Onanuga quoted Tinubu as saying: ‘Ambassador Enikanolaiye, your distinguished career has been defined by professionalism, intellectual depth, discipline and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria.

‘Your extensive experience in diplomacy, international relations, administration and strategic affairs remains an invaluable asset in strengthening Nigeria’s standing and influence in the international community.

‘As you mark this special day, I pray that Almighty God will continue to grant you good health, wisdom and strength to continue serving your fatherland.’
