Former Nigeria international Ayisat Yusuf has expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission and Nigeria Football Federation following her appointment as an assistant coach of the Super Falcons.
Yusuf was named alongside Christopher Danjuma as assistant to interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen, while Olatunji Baruwa will work as goalkeeper trainer.
The former midfielder described the appointment as an honour and an opportunity to contribute to the rebuilding of the senior women’s national team.
‘I want to appreciate the NFF and NSC for finding me worthy of this appointment. I am deeply honoured and excited to join the technical team of the national women’s side,’ Yusuf said.
‘This is a special opportunity to contribute to the growth of the game at the highest level, work closely with talented players, and help build a strong, competitive unit as we prepare for the challenges ahead.’
One of the immediate assignments before the new technical crew is Nigeria’s campaign to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Super Falcons will face Comoros in October, with Yusuf promising to give everything to help Nigeria return to the Olympic stage.
‘I promise to give my best and support to the Falcons to regain the trust of Nigerians and ultimately qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the USA.’
Yusuf added that working with the Super Falcons had long been one of her ambitions.
‘Being part of the national women’s setup is something I have always aspired to. I will bring energy, professionalism and a strong work ethic to help the team compete at the highest standard.’
