At least 40 Lakurawa fighters have been killed, and others injured by troops and local vigilantes in Gummi local government area of Zamfara State, sources are saying.
BusinessDay exclusive gathered that the operations took place on Sunday at Gwali village of Zamfara State, following an earlier letter sent by a terrorist group to the community scheduling a meeting.
The source said the soldiers, hybrid CJTF and vigilantes, who carried out the operation dealt heavy blow on the outlawed groups, leaving them with many casualties.
‘From available information, Lakurawa terrorists met their Waterloo this morning when a combined team of troops. More than 40 fighters were killed, and several others wounded, ‘ the source told BusinessDay.
Another security researcher revealed, ‘At least 38 Lakurawa fighters were killed this morning in Gwalli village, Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State by a combined team of soldiers and local vigilantes.
‘Lakurawa had boldly sent a letter to the community announcing its intention to carry out da’wah. This is one of the heaviest casualties inflicted on the group in recent times,’ the source said.
The details of the operation are yet to be revealed by the military.
