Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior has ended speculation over his future by signing a new six-year contract with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032.
The 26-year-old had entered the final year of his previous deal and had been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants, with Arsenal reportedly among the clubs monitoring his situation.
However, Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that both parties had reached an agreement to extend his stay for another six years.
Reacting to the announcement, Vinicius wrote on Instagram: ‘Eight years at the Bernabéu are too short… Six more years, and then forever.’
Key figure in Real Madrid’s success
In announcing the contract extension, Real Madrid described Vinicius as one of the club’s most influential players during one of the most successful eras in its history.
‘Vinicius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history,’ the club said in a statement.
The Brazilian joined Madrid from Flamengo in July 2018 as an 18-year-old and has since developed into one of world football’s premier attacking players.
Over eight seasons, he has made 375 appearances, scored 128 goals and helped the club win 14 major trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles, three LaLiga crowns, three Spanish Super Cups, one Copa del Rey, three FIFA Club World Cups and two UEFA Super Cups.
Big-game performer
Vinicius has played a decisive role in Real Madrid’s recent European dominance, scoring in both the 2022 UEFA Champions League final in Paris and the 2024 final in London as Los Blancos lifted their 14th and 15th European crowns.
His performances have also earned him a string of individual honours.
The winger was named The Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2024, won the Golden Ball at the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, was voted UEFA Champions League Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign, and claimed the Golden Ball at the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup.
He has also been named in the FIFA World XI (2024), selected twice in the FIFA FIFPro World11 (2023 and 2024), and featured in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season on three occasions.
The new contract underlines Real Madrid’s commitment to building their future around one of the club’s biggest stars as Vinicius enters the prime years of his career.
