’Spider-Man Brand New Day’ joins Nigeria’s N1bn box office club

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is currently the highest grossing movie in 2026 becoming the fastest film to cross N1 billion in Nigeria. The Marvel movie which crossed a billion in nine days and is currently the number one film in Anglo-West Africa in 2026 according to FilmOne Entertainment.

The Marvel blockbuster had earlier grossed over N720 million in Nigeria, with N120 million from advance screenings before its cinema debut and N605 million from its traditional three-day opening weekend.

The film recorded 101,706 admissions during its opening weekend, making it only the second film in West African history to record more than 100,000 opening weekend admissions, after Avengers ‘Endgame’.

The film has earned approximately $1.6 billion globally just over a week into its theatrical run. The film surpassed its reported 225 million dollars production budget within its first few days in theaters.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker or Spider Man and Zendaya as MJ. It continues Peter Parker’s story after the events of Spider Man’No Way Home’, where the world has forgotten his identity as the masked superhero.

The film’s performance shows that Nigeria’s entertainment spending is becoming more concentrated around major experiences.It shows that audiences are willing to spend when a film creates enough excitement and anticipation.
