Does Selena Quintanilla Have Kids? She Was Not Pregnant at Time of Death

The 1997 murder of pop star Selena Quintanilla fueled endless gossip about her personal life.

One of the biggest questions that has persisted for the 30 years following Quintanilla’s death at age 23 was whether she was pregnant at the time of her murder. (Quintanilla was fatally shot by her former friend and business associate Yolanda Saldívar in Corpus Christie, Texas, on March 31, 1995. She was convicted of first-degree murder in October of that year.)

A hoax about Quintanilla’s supposed pregnancy sprang up during the early days of the internet, with Saldívar seemingly lending credence to the speculation in subsequent jailhouse interviews.

Prior to the release of Netflix’s Selena y Los Dinos documentary in November 2025, Quintanilla’s widower, Chris Pérez, tried to clear up the pregnancy rumors. He has also offered insight into what his life was like with Quintanilla during their three years of marriage.

Does Selena Quintanilla Have Kids?

No. Selena Quintanilla and her husband Chris Pérez had no children together.

The 2025 documentary Selena y Los Dinos featured archival footage of Quintanilla speaking to a reporter about the prospect of becoming a mom, according to People.

“I would love to have children in the future. I think it is a part of my womanhood that, as a woman, I feel that I am missing it,” Quintanilla said. “More so in the future. I feel that I have to extract all of the goals that I have in my mind and achieve them.”

She added, “In the future, when I have time to take care of my children, well, of course I’m going to have kids. Like six. Another group!”

Another segment in the documentary featured Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, reflecting on her discussions with the “Dreaming of You” singer about their future.

“After she was married with Chris, she would just always tell me about her dreams. She would take off her makeup and always put her hair in a bun,” Suzette recalled. “We would talk about getting married, about me getting married one day, about her having children, her kids and my kids were gonna play together and we were going to make sure that we were going to raise them together. Normal stuff.”

Following Selena’s death, Chris was married to his second wife, Vanessa Villanueva, from 2001 to 2008. Chris and Vanessa share two children: Cassie and Noah.

Was Selena Quintanilla Pregnant When She Died?

No. Selena’s widower Chris has routinely denied persistent rumors that she was pregnant at the time of her death.

While promoting his memoir, To Selena, with Love, in 2012, Chris denied the pregnancy theories, along with speculation that he and Selena were planning to divorce.

“I could fill a whole book just about [those rumors],” Perez told Chron. “There were some things that were just ridiculous.”

What Has Selena Quintanilla’s Widower Chris Perez Said About Their Marriage?

Chris has occasionally spoken about his marriage to Selena over the years, including writing warmly about her in his memoir, To Selena, with Love.

The couple’s romance grew out of their musical collaborations, as Chris was a member of his future wife’s tejano band, Selena y Los Dinos. In Netflix’s 2025 documentary, Chris reflected on what life was like for one of the world’s biggest stars.

“Selena was always going, always on,” he said. “I think ‘road life’ started to become pretty busy, pretty hectic.”

Chris remembered that one of Selena’s favorite hobbies during her downtime was designing clothing.

“Doing the designing was something that made her happy,” Chris said. “She would set some time aside — quiet time. She would have her sketch pads and she would start going to town … Some of our outfits that we wore onstage were drawn by her.”

Elsewhere, Chris admitted that he’d struggled with “guilt” about the way Selena died. He said he had been aware that Yolanda Saldívar once showed off a pistol to his wife but was assured by Selena that Yolanda planned to return the gun. (Yolanda originally bought a Taurus Model 85 .38-caliber revolver from a San Antonio gun range. She later returned the weapon before re-purchasing the gun days before using it in the fatal shooting.)

“There was a lot of that. A lot of [guilt] going through my mind,” he told Chron. “But when something happens like that so quickly, and the way it happened, I think it’s only natural for most people to feel the same way. The reason something like that happens is because nobody expected it to happen. We didn’t think this person was capable of doing what she did.”

How Did Selena Quintanilla Die? Autopsy Report Details Revealed

Netflix’s 2025 documentary Selena y Los Dinos explores pop icon Selena Quintanilla’s murder at the hands of her former friend and business associate, Yolanda Saldívar.

Quintanilla — the “Queen of Tejano Music” — was only 23 years old when she was shot dead in Corpus Christi, Texas, in March 1995. Saldívar — once a trusted friend and president of Quintanilla’s fan club— was accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the musician’s businesses months before the shooting.

Following the strong public outcry over Quintanilla’s death, Nueces County, Texas, medical examiners agreed to conduct an autopsy just three hours after the singer’s death. The coroner’s report eventually ruled Quintanilla’s death a homicide, despite Saldívar claiming the shooting was accidental.

The coroner’s report offered fascinating details on Quintanilla’s final confrontation with Saldivar, where their disagreements exploded into a deadly act of violence.

Why Did Yolanda Saldivar Kill Selena

Yolanda Saldívar was initially just a fan of Selena Quintanilla. She later convinced the musician’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, to let her start a fan club in San Antonio, Texas, after seeing Selena in concert.

Saldívar went on to forge a close friendship with Quintanilla amid the success of her fan club. She was hired as a manager for the family’s Selena Etc boutique in Corpus Christie in 1994.

Her personal and professional relationship with the Quintanillas in early 1995 soured when the family discovered that Saldívar embezzled thousands from both the fan club and the boutique. Saldívar was fired from the store and replaced as the president of Selena’s fan club in March 1995.

In the weeks leading up to the murder, Saldívar purchased and returned a Taurus Model 85 .38-caliber revolver at San Antonio gun range A Place to Shoot. (Saldívar later re-purchased the weapon shortly before the murder took place.)

Saldívar checked into the Days Inn motel on March 30, where she contacted Selena and claim that she’d been raped. Saldívar reportedly begged Selena to come visit her alone in her hotel room so she could turn over financial records.

Later that day, Selena brought along her husband, Chris Pérez, for her meeting despite Saldívar’s pleas for her to come to the Days Inn alone. Pérez agreed to wait by their car and once they left the meeting, Selena discovered Saldívar had not given her the proper documents.

On March 31, 2025, Selena told business associate Leonard Wong that she planned to meet with Saldívar again to retrieve perfume samples and the correct financial records.

When Selena returned to the Days Inn later that day, she agreed to take Saldívar to the hospital for a rape examination. The two women were ultimately informed by medical officials that the exam would need to be administered elsewhere.

Selena and Saldívar then returned to the Days Inn.

How Did Selena Quintanilla Die?

Once they were back at the hotel, Selena once again asked Saldívar to turn over financial records. Saldívar then pulled out the Taurus Model 85 .38-caliber revolver and shot Selena in the shoulder.

A wounded Selena desperately ran to the hotel lobby for help, with Saldívar chasing after her and shouting abuse. Selena was rushed to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at around 1:05 p.m. local time on March 31, 1995.

At the same time, Saldívar engaged in a standoff with police after refusing to exit her vehicle in the Days Inn parking lot. Saldívar initially threatened to take her own life before she finally surrendered to FBI agents after a 10-hour standoff.

Saldívar was charged with first-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. At trial, Saldívar maintained that the shooting was accidental. She was found guilty in October 1995.

In October 1995, Saldívar was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. She is currently serving her sentence at a women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas.

Saldívar did seek parole in December 2024, but her request was denied in March 2025. She remains behind bars at the time of publication.

What Did Selena Quintanilla’s Autopsy Reveal About Her Death?

The Nueces County, Texas, medical examiner’s office agreed to rush an autopsy only three hours after Selena’s death due to immense public interest in the case.

Us Weekly obtained the original 1995 report that confirmed that Selena died from a bullet wound to her lower right shoulder. Selena’s death was ruled a homicide.

The coroner confirmed that her cause of death was “exsanguinating internal and external [bleeding] due to [a] perforating gunshot wound” in the chest.

“It is my opinion that Selena Quintanilla Pérez, a 23-year-old woman, came to her death as a result of an exsanguinating internal and external hemorrhage, in other words massive bleeding, due to a perforating gunshot wound of the thorax (chest),” coroner Lloyd White added.

According to the coroner’s report, the bullet entered Selena’s back. The path of the bullet was traced from the ribs to the “upper pulmonary lobe,” before puncturing “the chest wall.” An exit wound was detected on the “upper right anterior chest.”

The coroner determined that the path of the bullet gravely injured Selena’s subclavian artery, which contributed to her death. The coroner also noted that “blood [was] present over many areas of the clothes” that Selena was wearing at the time of her death.

Sister Wives’ Kody Shaves Mustache to ‘Make Out Like Teenagers’ With Robyn

Kody Brown has no problem getting rid of his facial hair — as long as it means more kisses from wife Robyn Brown.

Robyn, 47, revealed during the Sunday, November 16, episode of Sister Wives that Kody’s mustache and beard made it “painful” to kiss him, which was all Kody, 56, needed to hear to make a change.

“Would I get kissed more if it was gone?” Kody asked his wife, who replied, “Yes.”

Robyn confessed that Kody’s beard made it feel like she was kissing “one of those vegetable scrubbers from your kitchen sink.” She told the cameras, “I get poked all the time. It’s so uncomfortable.”

‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Robyn Wouldn’t Have Married Kody Without Polygamy

Kody, meanwhile, was quick to cater to Robyn’s needs, telling the cameras, “I got to get rid of this beard, so I’ll get kissed more.”

After declaring, “We’re shaving it right now,” Kody double checked that he would be rewarded if he was clean shaving.

“Promise me we’re going to make out like teenagers. And I promise you that [it] won’t bother me a bit,” Kody told Robyn as he pulled out the razor and began trimming his beard.

Once Kody buzzed off his mustache and was left with just a goatee on his chin, Robyn couldn’t help but swoon.

“Oh, look at that jawline. I haven’t seen that in a while,” Robyn said, flirting with her husband. “I think he looks younger. He looks good.”

Both Robyn and Kody were giddy as they started to kiss in the bathroom. “I’m going to get kissed now, man. Kisses for Kody,” he said in a confessional.

‘Sister Wives’ Preview: Kody Asks Robyn to ‘Accept’ Him as a Monogamist

“Hi,” Robyn cheekily told Kody in between kissing him. “I like it!”

She told viewers Kody looked “so much better,” gushing about how happy his new look made her. “Oh, my goodness. That’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s just make out. That’ll be great,’” Robyn added.

While Robyn revealed she preferred Kody clean shaven, her former sister wives had mixed feelings about facial hair.

“Someone said kissing a man without a mustache is like eating an egg without salt,” Christine Brown said in a confessional, hinting she’s a fan of men who have beards. (Christine’s husband, David Woolley, whom she wed in October 2023, has a mustache and goatee.)

Meri Brown added, “I think facial hair on guys is attractive.”

Janelle Brown, for her part, said she doesn’t have a “strong opinion” about the topic. “I know I don’t want too much, I’m not really into the full beard or whatever, but I think it just depends on the individual,” she shared.

As Sister Wives fans know, Kody previously had four wives. He married Meri, 54, in 1990, before entering spiritual unions with Janelle, 56, and Christine, 53, in 1993 and 1994, respectively. Robyn joined the polygamous family in 2010.

Kody later divorced Meri in 2014 to legally marry Robyn and adopt her three children from a prior marriage. He remained in a spiritual marriage with Meri until she confirmed in January 2023 that they parted ways.

Sister Wives’ Robyn and Janelle Describe Kody’s ‘Murder Face’: It’s ‘Scary’

Kody and Meri’s split came after Christine left him in November 2021 and Janelle announced their separation in December 2022.

While Robyn and Kody went through a rough patch amid their family shakeup, she revealed during Sunday’s episode that their romantic connection was back.

“Because of [the] other wives, you know, I’ve always just been really careful,” Robyn told the cameras of her approach to PDA. “Kody and I wouldn’t be affectionate publicly, but now that it’s just the two of us, we flirt a lot.”

Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.

CDEDI takes on suspended Salima Sugar Chief Kossam’s incompetence, fraudulent acts: Demands urgent Mutharika’s Govt action

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has released a hard-hitting statement warning that Salima Sugar Company Limited (SSCL) has become a “ticking bomb” due to massive mismanagement, corruption and political interference.

Addressing the news conference on Monday, CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, accuses senior executives and politically connected individuals of siphoning billions of kwacha from the company through fraudulent contracts, irregular payments and reckless decision-making.

CDEDI says the situation threatens the survival of the company and risks severe losses for the Malawian economy.

SSCL was originally formed as a joint venture between the Malawi Government through Greenbelt Holdings Limited and India’s AUM Sugar and Allied Limited. Its mandate was to introduce competition in the sugar market and provide affordable sugar to ordinary Malawians.

Instead, CDEDI says the company has been turned into a breeding ground for corruption.

The organisation links the current crisis to a 2023 directive by then Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, who instructed that all company matters be routed through Executive Chairman Wester Kossam. This position allowed Kossam to assume control over crucial operations of SSCL.

Although he appointed an acting CEO, Roy Apoovra, the CEO reportedly left Malawi for India shortly after his appointment, leaving Kossam to combine the duties of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer without oversight.

According to CDEDI, the consequences have been catastrophic. During the 2024–2025 crushing season, SSCL produced only 8,400 metric tonnes of sugar against a target of 20,000 tonnes, compared to 18,000 tonnes produced the previous season.

The organisation warns that this sharp decline puts the company on the brink of losing around K30 billion in revenue. With rains already falling, hundreds of sugarcane farmers now fear their uncrushed cane will go to waste.

The poor output has been attributed to chronic machine breakdowns and failure to maintain the company’s sugar mill, which has the capacity to crush up to 300,000 metric tonnes of cane annually.

CDEDI also reports that the drip irrigation system collapsed during the growing season, causing large portions of the crop to dry up before harvest.

Beyond operational failures, the organisation has raised serious allegations of personal enrichment. It claims Kossam authorised a K15 million payment for his private super-link trailer and awarded a lucrative K1.3 billion sugar import contract to ESTT Holdings, a firm linked to a politically influential individual, Ronald Mdoka.

A delegation sent to Brazil to inspect the purchased sugar reportedly found stock that was already destined for another country and the sugar has never arrived in Malawi. The payment remains unrecovered.

Further allegations include the use of a foreign currency account belonging to an honorary consul in the Middle East to facilitate the Brazil transaction and the issuing of unpaid credit facilities worth about K1 billion to politically connected individuals.

CDEDI also reveal scandalous fertiliser deals in which suppliers received hundreds of millions of kwacha upfront but delivered nothing.

On governance, CDEDI argues that Kossam’s recent suspension is meaningless because his term effectively expired when the Greenbelt Authority board was dissolved in August 2024 and again reconstituted in 2025 without his name. The organisation says government cannot suspend someone whose mandate ended long ago.

CDEDI has urged the government to ensure that all funds allegedly acquired unlawfully are refunded. It wants law enforcement agencies to summon all individuals involved, including those linked to the failed sugar import deal.

The organisation is also calling for an urgent audit of the entire company and for the Ministries of Finance and Agriculture to explore ways to rescue SSCL from a crippling loan that is costing the company over K1.1 billion every month.

CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa warns that unless decisive action is taken, Salima Sugar Company is headed for total collapse, leaving cane growers stranded and Malawians counting heavy losses.

Ramaphosa challenges ANC Foes-“Name the date and l will resign”

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has delivered a bold challenge to his internal rivals, daring them to publicly state the date on which they want him to step down.

Addressing the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) during what insiders described as a tense and heated political session, Ramaphosa confronted detractors directly.

He urged those plotting his removal to stop discussing his exit “in dark corners like cowards” and instead present their demands openly and transparently.

Ramaphosa further indicated that should the NEC formally request his resignation, he would comply immediately, signaling a willingness to abide by party processes.

The dramatic confrontation occurs amid escalating factional battles within the ANC, with some figures reportedly pushing for leadership changes and suggesting the creation of a national task team to replace the NEC.

Ramaphosa, however, insisted that the party cannot operate “mafia-style” and called for lifestyle audits of NEC members to enforce accountability and transparency.

His remarks come amid media speculation that he might resign following the G20 summit this weekend, heightening political tension within the party.

Despite the visible factionalism, ANC spokespersons maintain that the party remains united and that Ramaphosa intends to serve his full term until 2027.

Nevertheless, his daring statement exposes the depth of internal turmoil and pressures his opponents either to formalize their rebellion or abandon their behind-the-scenes campaign against him.

NAP condemns DPP leaders’ inflammatory remarks, urges support for Mutharika’s unity agenda

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has condemned in the strongest terms the recent remarks made by Alfred Gangata and Norman Chisale during a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rally at Chilimampunga Ground in Mtandire, Lilongwe.

NAP described the statements as scathing, terror-infused, and nepotistic, saying they directly contradict President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s commitment to peace, unity, inclusive leadership, and national healing.

The platform emphasized that President Mutharika’s election represented a profound vote of confidence from Malawians and a collective vision for a stable and prosperous Malawi anchored in equality and national cohesion.

NAP argued that the President’s broad-based support demonstrated that he is seen as a unifying figure capable of steering the country toward an inclusive future.

The organisation stressed that overzealous voices within the DPP must give the President the space and peace needed to navigate the nation’s complex challenges.

NAP warned that careless and inflammatory statements undermine the President’s authority and distract from the critical priorities facing the nation.

During the rally, Honourable Gangata, DPP Vice President (Central) and Minister of State, threatened violence against DPP members accused of “lying to the President” to secure positions.

Gangata also instructed traditional leaders to prioritise DPP members in the distribution of fertiliser and maize, a directive that NAP described as discriminatory, unlawful, and incompatible with democratic principles.

The platform noted that such acts of intimidation and nepotism are deliberate attempts to instil fear, deepen division, and politicise access to essential resources.

NAP reminded the public that prioritising certain political supporters for public resources violates Section 20(1) of the Constitution of Malawi, which guarantees equal protection under the law.

Equally concerning were remarks by Honourable Chisale, Deputy Minister of Homeland Security and DPP Director of Youth, who declared that he would ensure arrests in connection with the shooting of Ms. Brenda, a DPP supporter.

NAP stressed that while justice must be pursued, announcing arrests from a political platform undermines due process and risks portraying law enforcement as partisan.

The organisation urged all public officials to separate government policy communication from party rhetoric and to allow the justice system to function independently.

NAP further criticised the insinuation that the President’s decisions are influenced by “lies” from individuals seeking favour, noting that this undermines the dignity of the Presidency.

The platform argued that if party members had genuine concerns, they should raise them privately with the President rather than incite hostility at public rallies.

NAP warned that the Mtandire rhetoric reflects resistance to reform within the DPP and a preference for divisive, exclusionary politics.

The organisation called on DPP leadership to immediately disown, correct, and condemn these statements, reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, national unity, and accountable governance.

NAP reiterated that Malawi’s future depends on leadership that respects the Constitution, protects all citizens equally, and upholds fairness, dignity, and justice.

The platform concluded that no amount of terror or nepotism can undermine constitutional principles, and that the law will ultimately prevail.

Prophet Liabunya faces backlash after failed 2025 Election Prediction

….Social media erupts as Malawians question the whereabouts of the prophet who vowed his own death if MCP lost the polls

A video clip posted by Prophet Liabunya on his Facebook page went viral across social media before the September 16, 2025 elections.

In the clip, the self-proclaimed prophet declared, “Ngati MCP singapangidwe announce kuti yawina zisankho, come and kill me.”

His statement was widely interpreted as a prophecy guaranteeing victory for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the elections.

However, the MCP lost the September 16, 2025 polls, leaving many Malawians shocked and disappointed.

The failed prediction has sparked outrage and amusement on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and TikTok.

Many users are questioning the whereabouts of Prophet Liabunya following his dramatic declaration.

Some social media users have joked about whether he is in hiding, while others criticized him for misleading the public with his bold prophecy.

The viral clip has reignited debate about the influence of religious figures in political matters and the risks associated with making public election predictions.

Commentators argue that such statements can mislead followers and create unrealistic expectations before and after elections.

Observers have called for accountability, suggesting that prophets who make dramatic political predictions must face the consequences when their claims do not materialize.

Prophet Liabunya has remained silent since the election results, further intensifying curiosity and speculation among Malawians.

The situation has sparked broader discussions about the role of self-styled “celebrity prophets” and their influence on public perception and political discourse.

For now, many citizens continue to ask pointedly: “MCP lost the elections, so where is Prophet Liabunya?”

The incident highlights the potential dangers of mixing religious prophecy with political forecasts, particularly when such messages spread rapidly online.

Alfred Gangata’s childish, selfish, untimely remarks at political rally spark public outrage

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of State and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Vice President Alfred Gangata’s childish, selfish and untimely remarks made on Sunday during a political rally he organized in Lilongwe have attracted public outrage.

During the rally, Gangata reportedly told traditional leaders that the distribution of fertilizer and maize would begin but priority would be given to people who support the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Not only that but Gangata also questions other appointments made saying they did not deserve that “Why should they seen professionals now when they didn’t contribute anything towards September 16 elections”.

“Where were you the time our vehicles were burnt down by previous regime? We suffered for this party. And you can’t come now to convince President Mutharika to appoint you in various positions.

“If you continue to do that I will my boys to drag you in the office”, dares insensitive Gangata.

Some commentators have urged to people close to Gangata, warning them not to feel empowered as if he were the leader of a political party.

They hav emphasized that Gangata is a government minister, not a party president and therefore those around him should not use his position to intimidate or influence communities.

According to other commentators, Gangata’s remarks undermine Peter Mutharika’s mandate as appointing authority on state affairs.

Meanwhile, political commentator Chimwemwe Tsitsi has warned leaders of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to be cautious about what they say and do during political rallies, noting that reckless statements can damage the party’s reputation.

His warning follows Gangata’s controversial remarks in Lilongwe, where the minister told party followers that “those who do not support will not eat,” a statement that contradicts President Arthur Peter Mutharika’s call for leaders to focus on national development rather than greed and favoritism.

Tsitsi said if President Mutharika’s vision highlighted during the Mulhako wa Alhomwe celebrations is anything to go by it shows he wants to build the nation by working with all Malawians regardless of political affiliation or region of origin.

Commenting further, observer said Gangata needs to understand how to communicate in public and must know which statements are acceptable and which are not, noting that a minister cannot speak carelessly on sensitive national matters.

Tsitsi has urged DPP leaders to behave in ways that inspire confidence in citizens and preserve the party’s image of respect and responsible leadership for the good of the nation.
