BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has hailed the Government of Malawi for what it has described as a bold, visionary and long overdue decision to reform the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), describing the move as a milestone in promoting decentralisation, accountability and equitable development across the country.

In a statement jointly signed by NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe and National Coordinator Baxton Nkhoma, the organisation commended the Minister of Local Government for unveiling a comprehensive reform package in Parliament under the theme “Power to the People: Rebuilding Local Leadership and Revamping the CDF for True Community Empowerment.”

NAP said the reforms signal a decisive departure from the past, where weak oversight and political interference often undermined effective local governance.

Among the key measures announced, government has increased CDF allocations from K200 million to K5 billion per constituency, a development NAP described as historic and transformative.

“This is the clearest signal yet of government’s commitment to fiscal devolution and its determination to bring development closer to the people, in line with the National Decentralisation Policy,” reads part of the statement.

The organisation further welcomed the new governance and management framework for the fund, which places District Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers at the centre of project oversight to ensure compliance with procurement, financial and contract management standards.

NAP also applauded the decision to make Village and Area Development Committees (VDCs and ADCs) central in identifying projects, saying the move restores true community ownership and bottom-up planning in local development.

Equally significant, the introduction of trained Project Implementation Committees (PICs) is expected to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

NAP said it is encouraged by government’s plan to craft robust new guidelines for the reformed CDF, which will outline clear institutional roles, enhance citizen participation and align implementation with public finance laws and oversight mechanisms.

“These reforms are a necessary corrective to years of politicisation, weak controls and elite capture of the CDF,” NAP observed.

“If fully implemented, they have the potential to transform the fund into a genuine driver of grassroots development, supporting schools, health facilities, water systems, roads, agriculture and youth and women empowerment initiatives,”NAP added.

The platform has since urged government to fast-track the finalisation and dissemination of the new CDF guidelines through inclusive consultations involving all stakeholders.

NAP also called for stronger audit and procurement systems, enhanced citizen oversight and full public disclosure of all CDF-funded projects and contracts to safeguard transparency and public trust.

NAP underscored the importance of merit-based recruitment and performance monitoring of VDCs and ADCs to ensure that they operate independently and effectively, free from political manipulation.

The organisation further urged adherence to the Public Finance Management Act, Public Audit Act, and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) Act as key instruments in promoting accountability and prudent use of public resources.

LILONGWE -(MaraviPost)-Inline with their objectives, the Football Legends Association (FLA) is set to train 10 of their members in vocational skills starting next month.

This follows an agreement which the body signed with Ebenezer Investment in July this year.

FLA board Chairperson Jim Kalua said among others, the selected members will be trained in screen printing, entrepreneurship, graphic designing and embroidery.

“This is one way of empowering our legends with practical skills to be self-reliant. The training is expected to cost MK9.50 million which according to our MoU we will contribute the 35 percent which translates to about MK3.2 million”, Jim Said.

He added part of the proceeds from the association’s initiatives will be channelled towards the programme.

“It is all about meeting our core objective to look after the welfare of our legends”, He added.

During the signing of the MoU, Ebenezer managiy Director Jane Mfune said the Ebenezer was committed to supporting Football Legends Association (FLA) members.

The Kardashians documented Kim Kardashian‘s failed attempt at buying her late father’s bible from O.J. Simpson‘s estate — and revealed how much she was willing to pay.

During the Thursday, November 13, episode of The Kardashians, Kim, 45, got a call about her offer for the bible, which she wanted to acquire for Khloé Kardashian.

“There is the bible that my dad gave O.J. after the murders happened — but before he went into prison — and he brought it to prison with him,” Kim recalled about O.J.’s legal troubles. “It’s just really special. Khloé saw it on the Internet and then sent it to me and was, like, ‘Oh my God, this bible is going for auction. We have to get it.’”

Kim wanted to surprise Khloé with the sentimental gift. When Kim offered O.J. ‘s estate $15,000 as the initial offer, the news was leaked.

Robert Kardashian was O.J.’s friend and on his legal team. He also reportedly wrote a handwritten message in the bible, which was dated June 18, 1994.

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Black Economic Empowerment Movement (MaBLEM) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing fuel crisis that continues to paralyze daily life across the country, despite repeated government assurances that normal supply would resume.

In a strongly worded statement released this week and signed by MaBLEM Chairperson Robert Mkwezalamba and Coordinator Fryson Chodzi,MaBLEM said the situation on the ground remains critical, particularly regarding the scarcity of petrol.

The organization questioned why, even after the Ministry of Energy announced that fuel tankers were on their way to Malawi, long queues continue to snake around filling stations nationwide.

According to the group, the persistent shortages are not merely a result of supply chain constraints but are being aggravated by widespread illegal fuel trading on the black market.

MaBLEM revealed that on November 9, 2025, over 75 percent of fuel stations in Lilongwe received new supplies, yet the shortage has not eased.

“What we are witnessing instead is the flourishing of an organized black market where fuel is being diverted, hoarded and resold at exorbitant prices ranging from K8,000 to K12,000 per litre far above the official pump price of K3,500,”part of the statement.

The movement noted that some individuals, particularly motorcycle operators and taxi drivers are taking advantage of the situation by buying fuel multiple times at filling stations, then reselling it illegally.

This behavior, MaBLEM said, is fueling artificial scarcity and denying ordinary Malawians access to fuel at regulated prices.

MaBLEM also took aim at the authorities, accusing them of failing to enforce the law.

It said police officers and energy regulators have largely turned a blind eye to rampant black market activities taking place in areas such as Mtandire, Bwandilo, Biwi Triangle, Kanengo and Area 25 in Lilongwe.

“This level of lawlessness threatens national stability, disrupts business operations and contributes to inflationary pressures that are directly hurting ordinary citizens,” the statement warned.

The organization has since called on the government, through the Ministry of Energy, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and the Malawi Police Service, to take coordinated action to dismantle the illegal fuel networks and ensure strict enforcement of trading regulations.

Furthermore, MaBLEM urged citizens to refrain from buying fuel from black market vendors, stressing that doing so only perpetuates corruption, scarcity and exploitation.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a continued effort to promote agricultural productivity and empower local communities, Apostle Clifford Kawinga has distributed essential farming inputs to members of the Kukulitsa Malire Farmers’ Clubs 1, 2, and 3 in Chimutu Village, Traditional Authority Tsabango, Lilongwe District.

Speaking during the distribution ceremony, Apostle Kawinga highlighted the importance of supporting rural farmers as a key foundation for national development.

He said the distributed items included three diesel water pumps, 150 fertilizer bags, and 150 kilograms of maize seed, among other valuable agricultural resources.

Kawinga explained that the initiative aims to equip local farmers with the tools and materials they need to thrive in the upcoming farming season.

Each of the three farmers’ clubs has over 200 active members, all of whom are expected to benefit from this timely support.

The assistance is anticipated to enhance irrigation efforts, boost crop yields, and strengthen food security within the community.

“When we invest in our farmers, we invest in our future. Every seed planted is a seed of hope. Together, we are building communities of prosperity and sustainability,” said Apostle Kawinga.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the club chairperson, Sivelo Gaulani, expressed gratitude for the support.

“We mostly rely on maize, but with this support, we are now ready to diversify into soya bean farming,” Gaulani said.
