Deputy Minister of Shipping, Marina Hadjimanolis stressed the need for sustainable solutions and consensus among all stakeholders, in order to achieve the highest possible level of decarbonisation of the shipping sector.
Hadjimanolis was addressing on Thursday an EU Transport Council (TTE) in Brussels.
In the context of the Council, Hadjimanolis took part in a discussion on the adoption of global measures for the decarbonisation of shipping within the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a Deputy Ministry press release said.
At the same time, she presented the work programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU on maritime transport issues.
In her intervention, the Deputy Minister underlined that the EU must promote global, realistic and implementable measures within the International Maritime Organization, which ensure a level playing field and broad support from member states.
She also stressed the need for sustainable solutions and consensus among all stakeholders, in order to achieve the highest possible level of decarbonisation of the shipping sector.
In addition, on the sidelines of the Council, the Deputy Minister held bilateral meetings with the Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Morten Bødskov, and the Irish Minister for Transport, Seán Canney.
Among other issues, they discussed the work programme of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping ahead of the forthcoming Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as expected developments concerning the adoption of global measures for the decarbonisation of shipping.
