Cyprus to host 2031 Games of the Small States of Europe

Cyprus will host the 2031 Games of the Small States of Europe following a unanimous decision by the Games’ General Assembly.

A press release by the Cyprus Olympic Committee says that the deliberations of the General Assembly and Technical Committees of the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) wrapped up in Monaco on May 9th with the participation of the National Olympic Committees of the member countries.

A significant development, the press release says, was the unanimous decision of the General Assembly to give Cyprus the organization of the 2031 Games of the Small States of Europe.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee was represented by President George Chrysostomou, Treasurer Giannos Fotiou and Administrative Officer George Panayidis (Member of the Technical Committee).

The President of COC thanked the Members of the Assembly for the trust and promised hard work in close cooperation with the state, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the municipal authorities, federations, the Cyprus Sports Organisation and the volunteers for a successful organisation at all levels.

The Members of the General Assembly were given a tour of the Principality Palace, followed by a dinner hosted by Prince Albert II. During his conversation with the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee, Prince Albert II sent his warmest greetings to Cyprus and expressed his intention to attend the 2031 Games.

During the deliberations, they reviewed the progress of the preparation of the upcoming events of 2027 in Monaco and 2029 in Luxembourg, and discussed issues concerning the overall development and evolution of the Games of the Small States of Europe.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee says in its press release that it continues to play an active role in the framework of the GSSE, contributing substantially to the planning and strengthening of the institution.
