Education is an integral part of the work we will drive forward during our EU Presidency beginning January 1st, focusing on the new Erasmus+ in the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework, on the EU Youth Strategy 2025-27, as well as on the Union of Skills, an area we as Government have been working on since day one, matching our education system and skills with the labour market, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday.
Addressing the 46th Cyprus Business School Graduation Ceremony, the President told graduates that the knowledge, skills and values they have acquired will serve as their professional and moral compass, a foundation for lifelong learning, social responsibility and meaningful engagement.
“The most successful people are those who never stop learning, who continue to grow and who use their skills to uplift those around them as they rise,” he said.
He also told the graduates that nothing about today was given to them but they earned it and have reached this milestone through years of hard work, constant effort, self-discipline, commitment, and perseverance.
“But today is also a moment of deep gratitude. Because no one arrives here alone. Behind every graduate stands a family who believed in you, supported you, and celebrated your every step. Professors who guided you, and inspired you. Who at times believed in you perhaps more than you believed in yourselves. And an institution that thoroughly prepared you for the journey ahead”, he said.
The President also said in his address that the Cyprus Business School has long been a contributor to the Cyprus’ higher education landscape adding that with its pledge to quality education and international engagement, it prepares students not only for professional success, but also for active citizenship in a rapidly evolving global society.
He assured that education is at the forefront of the Government’s work adding that with reform being at the core of all they do as a Government, they are investing in quality, equity, and internationalization, as a commitment to the young people of our country.
“In this context, the Government, through the Ministry of Education, has developed the Strategic Plan for the Upgrading of Higher Education. Our objectives include the modernisation of Higher Education, strengthening the alignment of Higher Education with the labour market, and establishing Cyprus as a vibrant and competitive international center for Higher Education”, he added.
President Christodoulides noted also that they want to ensure that every student, no matter their starting point, has the opportunity to thrive and shape a meaningful future.
“Cyprus’ higher education institutions play a crucial role in this effort, offering education that is both locally grounded and globally relevant, and deeply connected to the needs and aspirations of today’s youth,” he concluded.
