A significant drop in temperature and severe weather conditions are expected tomorrow, Saturday 29 August, said Michalis Mouskos, Senior Meteorological Officer at the Department of Meteorology, speaking to CNA on Friday.
Specifically, according to Mouskos, rain and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday throughout the day and into the early evening in several parts of Cyprus, adding that a warning is due to be issued on Friday afternoon, which is highly likely to be an ‘orange’ one due to the severity of the conditions.
With regard to the temperature, he noted that from around 39 degrees inland and 34 on the coast on Friday, it will drop to 30 on Saturday, however, from Sunday onwards, it will begin to rise, returning to normal seasonal levels by Tuesday, around 36 degrees inland and 32 on the coast.
He added that there will still be some unsettled weather in the mountains over the coming days, with isolated showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, whilst passing showers and hail may also occur today.
He also advised drivers to be vigilant when travelling on the roads on Saturday, and to avoid staying outdoors during thunderstorms.
