Yellow warning for thunderstorms until midnight

A yellow warning for thunderstorms was issued by the Meteorology Department on Friday. The warning will be valid from 17:00 on Friday until 00:00 on Saturday.

Isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect mainly the west and north, the warning noted, adding that hail is expected to fall in a thunderstorm.

Rainfall locally will range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, the warning concluded.

Meteorological officer Andreas Hadjigeorgiou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) earlier on Friday that no severe weather events are expected after midnight.

He further added that on Saturday the temperature will rise to 20 degrees Celsius inland and on the coast and to 10 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Sunday, a further drop of two degrees Celsius is expected with rainfall initially occurring in coastal areas and progressively in the mountains and inland areas.

As regards the period between Monday and Wednesday, Hadjigeorgiou said that the forecast shows rain and possibly local storms.
