Hollywood actor Ben Affleck and Jeopardy! champion Jamie Ding have won $1 million for charity after answering the final question correctly on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
The victory came during Wednesday’s episode, one year after Affleck’s longtime friend and Good Will Hunting co-star, Matt Damon, also claimed the show’s top prize.
To secure the $1 million, Affleck and Ding had to identify which pair of turkeys had never received a presidential pardon in the United States. The answer choices were Peanut Butter and Jelly, Tater and Tot, Mac and Cheese, and Spaghetti and Meatball.
The US presidential turkey pardon tradition was formally introduced by former President George H.W. Bush in 1989.
Unsure of the correct answer, Affleck and Ding turned to host Jimmy Kimmel for help. Kimmel hesitantly suggested Spaghetti and Meatball. They also asked Ding’s trivia partner, Stephen Morrison, but he chose not to offer an answer.
‘I would bet on Jimmy,’ Affleck said ‘ I would go for it.’
Ding locked in Spaghetti and Meatball as their final answer, while Kimmel waited nervously for the result.
‘I have such a stomach ache right now,’ the host said as the contestant waited.
After a tense pause, the answer was confirmed as correct. Affleck and Ding celebrated on stage as confetti fell around them.
Kimmel then presented the pair with a $1 million cheque for Affleck’s Eastern Congo Initiative.
Affleck founded the Eastern Congo Initiative with entrepreneur Whitney Williams in 2009.
The organisation supports community-based groups and works to increase international awareness of issues affecting eastern Congo.
