Disneyland welcomes 8-year-old as its billionth guest

The Happiest Place on Earth has officially welcomed a billion people through its magical gates.

Disneyland Resort in California – which is celebrating its 71st anniversary this month – confirmed last July 3 that eight-year-old Andres Robles was the one billionth guest to enter the theme park.

Robles was celebrating his birthday with parents Alejandra and Jose when they were invited by park mascots Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse to take part in a small ceremony on Main Street.

The Robles family helped unveil a new Disneyland sign that said “Population 1,000,000,000,” then later received a VIP tour guide.

The special visit included a tour of founder Walt Disney’s private apartment and the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction. Disneyland president Jill Estorino said in a statement that welcoming a billionth guest was “a remarkable milestone” and “a testament to the generations of guests who have made this special place part of their lives.”

“For more than 70 years, Walt’s original park has been a timeless symbol of Disney storytelling, where memories are made and shared,” Estorino added. “We are honored to carry that legacy forward for guests today and for generations to come.”

Disney oversaw the opening of the theme park to the general public on July 18, 1955, though a televised press event took place the day before.

To date, five other Disney resorts have opened in Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
