Gatchalian: Marcos’ ‘bucket’ advice practical amid expected El Niño

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday agreed with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s advice for Filipinos to buy buckets and collect rainwater in preparation for possible water shortages during the expected Super El Niño.

‘He’s right. His suggestion is practical because of the El Niño phenomenon. It should be the rainy season now, but we’re seeing rain that comes only sporadically. So, it’s important that we be prepared,’ Gatchalian said over DZRH.

‘His suggestion to buy buckets and prepare for possible water interruptions in various parts of the country is practical,’ he added.

Gatchalian was asked about the president’s advice to Filipinos to prepare buckets and collect rainwater ahead of the Super El Niño.

At an interview in Singapore on Sunday, Marcos discussed how the government would respond to possible water shortages during the expected phenomenon.

‘Part of those public service messages will be to collect rainwater. Buy buckets now so that when it rains, you can collect as much water as possible,’ he said.

Vice President Sara Duterte did not directly comment on the president’s remarks when asked in an interview on Monday, though she reiterated her previous statement that ‘we can’t rely on the president.’
