A 53-year-old mother died after a motorcycle driven by her 30-year-old daughter crashed into a roadside tree in Silang, Cavite, on Sunday morning (Aug. 2).
The victim, identified as ‘Sonia,’ was her daughter ‘Janice’s’ backrider, the Calabarzon police said on Monday (Aug. 3). They were traveling along a section of Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Biga II when Janice suddenly lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a tree beside the road.
The impact threw both riders from the motorcycle onto the pavement. Rescuers rushed them to Silang Specialist Medical Center for emergency treatment. However, Sonia died while undergoing medical care.
Police said Sonia’s husband is not pursuing any criminal complaint against his daughter.
The police report did not indicate whether the two riders were wearing protective helmets at the time of the crash, as required under Republic Act No. 10054, or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. INQ
