Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will cooperate with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) as it probes a previous cabinet’s decision to reallocate 35 billion baht for the 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme, he said.
In the crosshairs are former premier Srettha Thavisin and several ministers who served during the Aug 13, 2024, cabinet meeting, which approved the reallocation.
Mr Anutin said he had not yet seen the full details of the inquiry.
“Any matter brought before the cabinet must be legal and thoroughly vetted,” he said, adding that the final judgement rests with the NACC and must not be interfered with.
When asked if he voiced an opinion during the discussion, he said cabinet members generally support proposals that are not unconstitutional or harmful to national interests.
Pakorn Nilprapunt, secretary-general of the Council of State, said it is the cabinet secretariat’s responsibility to respond to formal inquiries from the NACC.
He noted that not all attendees of the cabinet meeting would automatically be subject to investigation, and any further questioning would depend on the NACC’s findings.
Mr Pakorn said if any cabinet member had objected to the reallocation at the meeting, their individual liability would depend on the facts of the case and must be assessed separately.
