Africa’s strongest currencies in August 2026 remain dominated by North African economies, with Tunisia, Libya and Morocco holding the top three positions against the US dollar.
According to exchange rate data from Forbes Advisor’s Currency Converter, the Tunisian dinar remains the continent’s strongest currency, trading at 2.96 dinars to one US dollar. Libya’s dinar ranks second at 6.41 per US dollar, while Morocco’s dirham ranks third at 9.38 per US dollar.
Ghana’s cedi ranks fourth at 11.64 per US dollar, followed by the Seychelles rupee at 13.52 and Botswana’s pula at 13.77. Eritrea’s nakfa ranks seventh, while South Africa’s rand, Eswatini’s lilangeni and Namibia’s dollar complete the top 10.
