Nigeria’s D’Tigers made a winning start to the latest FIBA World Cup qualifying window with a hard-fought 84-81 victory over Tunisia.
Chimezie Metu and Ike Iroegbu led the scoring with 17 points each, while Wes Iwundu added 14 and Uche Iroegbu contributed 13 points in an entertaining contest.
Both teams battled from start to finish in a closely contested game, but Nigeria held their nerve in the closing stages to secure a valuable win.
The victory strengthens D’Tigers’ chances of progressing, with matches against Guinea and Rwanda still to come in the three-game qualifying window.
Head coach David Fizdale will now look to build on the positive start and guide Nigeria to more victories.
